Proust Questionnaire

We decided to take the 'Proust Questionnaire', which is a questionnaire about your personality.  It's named after the French writer, Marcel Proust who took it at several times throughout his life.  We had fun giving our answers to it, but we also asked our best friends to take it for us.  Their answers are given next to ours.

Rowena answered for Emily.  Emily's known Rowena ever since they met at the induction into secondary school.  Since then, it's been pretty much rollicking good fun for eight years.  If there's anyone that might know Emily better than Emily herself, it's Rowena.

Chloe answered for Sarah.  Sarah's known Chloe since the beginning of secondary school too, and they are as close as two peas in a pod!

Here are our answers...

Sarah, by Emily

Looking back at early home videos of my sister and I, I can't help but cringe.  Sarah, three years old, writes a '3' on our blackboard, the wrong way around.  Cue seven year old me: "No Sarah, it's this way round, not like that!"  For some reason, I thought the best way to make everything perfect was to tell everyone else what they were doing wrong.  Sarah's since taught me just how wrong I was!  Instead, we should lead by example.  My sister is World Number One at doing just that.  Sarah lives her life in the best way she possibly can, and by doing so, whether she knows it or not, constantly teaches me how to be a better me.

In everything she does, Sarah's focused on making the other people in her life feel as good as they can. One of the most amazing things about her is her overwhelming selflessness and total loyalty to the people she cares about.  As a friend, she will never let you down.  She loves with everything she's got, with her whole being.

I can't tell you how much I value the connection I have with my sister.  We have conversations about everything, from religion and philosophy all the way through to the most trivial thing in a magazine. Sarah has a unique and mature outlook on life that belies her years.  She comes out with some real words of wisdom! But more than this, she's also one of the biggest sources of fun.  I'm always worrying about something, but even though I know Sarah's got her own worries, she never lets them get her too down, and she's always got enough optimism left to help make people feel better again, and see the brighter side of every situation.

My sister has a wholehearted passion for living.  When I think of her, I see sunbeams, the sea, tropical flowers, holidays, and happiness. I have been blessed for sixteen of my twenty years with a beautiful person who is always along for the ride (and very often pushing me to get on and enjoy the ride in the first place!) Sarah teaches me something new every day.  I am forever grateful.

Emily, by Sarah

I've said it many times to her, but my sister is honestly the most headstrong person I have ever known. In my eyes her character can be illustrated by a single maxim; there's my goal, let's go and get it. And that, I think, completely sums up my sister's attitude to life. This is the attribute in her personality I admire most, because it is likely that many, if not all of her successes in life have risen from that incessant drive to achieve. It's almost as if the moment she was lifted from the womb, a breech baby, broadly smiling, she was graced with a gift of achieving in all areas of life, (indeed, Dad will tell you it was like the scene from The Lion King when Simba is lifted over the rock as 'The Circle of Life' plays in the background).

Emily's strong determination, I know, will never diminish, which is why I have always had complete faith in her every choice and been certain she will get through any hardship, coming out the other side looking like she hasn't been troubled by a thing. Ever since I can remember, I've always admired Emily in everything she has ever done, because puts her whole soul into it, and she does it for the ones she loves. A favourite old story of mine epitomises the admiration I have for my sister - when I was born, I was apparently a nightmare to stop crying. When my mum handed me over to Emily, I completely stopped crying, and was quiet, silenced by her gentle hold on me. I like to think I was amazed by her - but it isn't hard to believe if you know her! Emily is an amazing person, brimming with passion about what she is going to do next.

I can't even begin to tell you what she means to me - I wouldn't miss the connection I have with my sister for the world -  she knows me. I feel so grateful to have a best friend by me - to share the good memories, to share the bad memories, learning together, singing together, and overcoming the obstacles of life hand in hand. She is a passionate, driven, beautiful, intelligent woman and I will continue to admire and love her for as long as I live.
